Hilarious training gimmicks – #1 The Shake Weight

Fitness gimmick

Marketing has a lot to answer for when it comes to the fitness industry. I’m often left wondering who would fall victim to such scams?

But in a world of billions of people, if your exposure is high enough, you are bound to bait a few dud fish.

Introducing the Shake Weight

Ok, so the Shake Weight has been around since the start of the year, but many of us may have not been made privy to it’s Awesomeness™.

“The rapid short and powerful thrust of the shake weight ignites muscular activity in your entire upper body!”

Uhmmmm no. No it doesn’t ya jack-ass.

Apart from it’s obvious taboo issues, this device claims to have you looking like the ripped male models within it’s commercials in a matter of no time.

That’s what everyone else gathered from it right?

If there was to be an inkling of truth in the ad, the models contained within would be overweight and clueless or have a model who shakes the Shake Weight in unison with his/her tuck-shop-lady-arms. We would THEN change the channel in disgust or forward the video to our friends.

But because a would-be male fitness model of the year contender is furiously jerking the Shake Weight through the air and becoming seemingly exhausted at his 6 minute workout, we are all mesmerized and consequently, pull out our credit cards to order.

    Surely thats gotta mean something… RIGHT?

  • Darrin says:

    Yeah, I’ve seen this thing. Completely absurd. But then again, all those ab gizmos that come and go have made a ton of money so it’s not too surprising.

  • Dude…I don’t even know what to say about that video. I mean…the only comment I have is NOT politically correct and I don’t feel comfortable leaving it on a G-rated site like this one. ;-)

    I mean…seriously…didn’t the idiot that shot that video ever watch it? Especially in slow motion?

    Get real!!!

    Thanks for the great laugh!

    I don’t know what you all are thinking! Mine is in the mail and I can’t wait to use it!

  • Wow, what will they think of next. I remember laughing when I first saw this commercial. I guess they’re convincing someone about it’s effectiveness, can’t imagine who though!

    @WE55IDE
    It means that you’ve been sucked in. You’re not a sucker are you Wes?

    @Darrin
    It’s even made funnier by the fact that there is a male an a FEMALE version too. Apparently they cater for different goals! Who Knew… who knew.

    @JC
    Just on the quiet, I’ve ordered a dozen and will be promoting them shortly :)

    @Dave
    I’m not sure if it’s been successful or not. I need to look into its effectiveness.
    To the internets!

  • Some people will try anything and pay anything to avoid doing a bit of work themselves! But the video is entertaining!

  • You can actually buy this in the fitness stores here in Ireland, which is awesome ’cause I can start jerking straight away,lol, sorry I couldn’t resist :)

    I agree with Deb, the video is very entertaining, I couldn’t stop laughing!! Thank you Shake Weight, for brightening my day.
