Thanks Sarah Jane for answering some ‘Crude’ questions. How did you get started with modelling and fitness?
Sarah Jane: I was scouted In Brisbane city when I was in high school, it always interested me so I started doing a few things here and there then I started getting the good jobs like catalogues and TVC’s. I branched into fitness when I fell in love with it. It changed my whole mental well being and with a bit of inspiration from two of my best friends I decided to compete.
I rarely ever do cardio as I find I get atrophy almost instantly if I do.
What is the number one thing that has kept you motivated?
Sarah Jane: Its part of my lifestyle. I LOVE it and how it makes me feel and how fitness has changed my life in so many positive ways. I’ve never felt so good about my body before. I’ve had many body issues growing up and im finally happy so that keeps me motivated.
What is your training routine like, and what does it involve?
Sarah Jane: I train everyday, as I said its part of my lifestyle its not a chore. I rarely ever do cardio as I find I get atrophy almost instantly if I do. Being naturally lean I have to work on heavy weights to keep and gain my muscle mass.
I like to isolate and do lots of compound exercises and I super set everything!
What are some of the other writers, artists, models and fitness leaders that have inspired you?
Sarah Jane: I’m lucky enough to have two of my best friends as my inspirations. Emily Skye and Giselle Jacques. They were my original inspirations to take my fitness to the next level above just going to the gym and actually doing something with it. I also got the most amazing pleasure of meeting Lindy Olsen editor of Oxygen Magazine Australia. I learnt so much from Lindy and have taken her advice on and haven’t looked back.
Im very happy with my all over portioned body. But if I have to choose I would say my shoulders.
I debunk a lot of gimmicks and scams on this site. Is there anything fitness related that you’ve fallen victim to yourself and wasted your money on in the past?
Sarah Jane: I think everyone has fallen victim to the Detox diet at some point in their life! Lucky I know better now.
Your own physical feature that you are most proud of
Sarah Jane: Im very happy with my all over portioned body. But if I have to choose I would say my shoulders—I’m so happy with how I’ve managed to grow twigs into shapely caps.
Are there any KEY diet or training tips that you adhere to
Sarah Jane: High protein, carbs around exercise time (do NOT cut them) and I avoid sugar and processed foods. I live the clean and lean life. Training I superset pretty much everything!
What’s a day-in-the-life for SJ like? Give us a run-down of how you eat, train and move on a regular day.
Sarah Jane: Right now extremely hectic. Before my comp I was trying to plan my wedding, train, prepare all my meals the night before and compelete my studies whilst working my full-time job as well as working for my own beauty business. Now that my comp has passed and I’m in the “off season” I can relax a little bit. I still, however, have my 6 meals a day and train either mornings or afternoons. I prepare my meals for the next day the night before and I study and wedding plan at night.
What supplements do you use if any? If not, why not?
Sarah Jane: Yes I use Dfine8 as my pre workout, Xtend (BCAA) during my workout and a WPI protein post workout. I take fish oil and a multivitamin everyday too.
Favourite quote?
Sarah Jane: “Im not saying its going to be easy, I’m saying its going to be worth it” and “You don’t know how strong you are, until being strong is your only option”.
What’s next on the horizon for SJ?
Sarah Jane: I’m getting married, and preparing to tackle my next competition! I’m also starting up my own health and fitness business so keep an eye out…
Thanks for your time SJ, is there anything you’d like to add?
Sarah Jane: Thank you! Be sure to head to my website and Facebook pages to follow my journey.
